The Merseyside Derby saw two Africans contributing to their respective teams, while other Africans were on target in week five of the Premier League. Mohamed Salah provided an assist in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over derby rivals Everton at Anfield as they maintained their lead at the summit.

Liverpool edged Everton 2-1 to register their fifth consecutive win. The Egyptian star assisted Ryan Gravenberch to open the scoring in the 10th minute. Senegal international Idrissa Gueye struck a superb goal to pull one back in the second half, but the Toffees lost to the Reds.

Gambian winger Yankuba Minteh was on target as Brighton played out a 2-2 draw against Tottenham at the Amex Stadium. Nonetheless, the Seagulls threw away a 2-0 lead to settle for a point. Ghanaian star Mohammed Kudus assisted the first Spurs goal scored by Richarlison.

Elsewhere, Senegalese left-back El Hadji Malick Diouf continued his wonderful solo form as West Ham lost at home to Crystal Palace. Diouf provided an assist for Hammers striker Jarrod Bowen to equalize in the second half, but the team eventually lost to fellow London side Palace.
