President Samia Suluhu promises cash reward if Tanzania win CHAN

Tanzania President Samia Suluhu Hassan has pledged a reward of 1bn/- to the Tanzanian envoys, Taifa Stars, if they win the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Taifa Stars have been pooled alongside Burkina Faso, Mauritania, Central African Republic and Madagascar and they will play all their matches at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

The message from the Head of State was delivered by the Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Professor Palamagamba Kabudi, who added that the reward is part of the government’s motivation to encourage the players to fight with full determination while representing the East African nation.

“If Taifa Stars win the CHAN title, the government will offer a reward of 1bn/-. If the team reaches the final, they will receive 500m/-, and 200m/- if they make it to the semi-finals. In addition, there will be a special ‘Goli la Mama’ (Mama’s Goal) bonus of 20 million for every goal scored in the semi-final,” Prof. Kabudi told Daily News.

“I urge all Tanzanians to turn out in large numbers to cheer for Taifa Stars and seize the economic and business opportunities that will arise from this major tournament.”

Tanzania will begin their campaign against Burkina Faso on Saturday, August 2.
