Primeira Liga: Fofana completes Porto comeback; Catamo scores in Sporting win

Things remained the same at the top of the table in Portugal’s Primeira Liga on Sunday with Seko Fofana scoring the winner for leaders FC Porto while Geny Catamo helped defending champions Sporting CP keep the pace in second place.

Ivorian midfielder Fofana, alongside Nigerian striker Terem Moffi, have each done well to adapt quickly since joining leaders Porto midway through the 2025-26 campaign and it was Fofana who made a massive contribution on Sunday.

After going behind at Braga early in the second half, the leaders maintained their seven-point lead with a late comeback. William Gomes equalized in the 69th minute before Fofana, on as a substitute thirteen minutes earlier, who arrived to fire in the winning goal in the 80th minute after a corner kick fell kindly for the midfielder at the far post.

It is his second goal in nine matches since arriving on loan from Stade Rennais. Porto continue to compete in three competitions, where they are serious contenders in the Primeira Liga, the Taça de Portugal as well as the UEFA Europa League where they have advanced to the quarterfinals.

Primeira Liga title chase remains competitive

Defending Portuguese club champions Sporting remain in the hunt after a 4-1 victory at midtable side Alverca. After Pedro Gonçalves and Luis Suárez put the visitors ahead 2-0 by the 50th minute, Mozambique national team superstar Geny Catamo contributed a goal of his own in the 68th minute.

Isolated with a defender on the right wing, Catamo danced inside before firing a rocket past the goalkeeper at his near post. He has started the last eight matches for his club, and now has 7 goals and 4 assists from 35 matches in all competitions.

Sporting are seven points back with a game in hand on title rivals Porto.
