In a tight clash on Saturday, Mozambique national team star Geny Catamo's 50th minute strike made the difference in Sporting's 1-0 victory away at Santa Clara in Portugal's Primeira Liga.

The 24-year-old continues to display his gradual improvement as a player, finishing with his weaker right foot from an assist by former FC Barcelona and Wolves attacker Francisco Trincão in the 50th minute.

Defending Portuguese top flight champions Sporting are locked in a fierce fight with Benfica for top spot and Satuday's result moves them ahead by one point for the time being. Benfica will be able to return to first place when they host midtable side Arouca on Sunday (17:00 GMT).

Catamo is in good form currently. Nine days after opening the scoring in Sporting's 2-0 semifinal first leg victory over Rio Ave in the Taça de Portugal, Saturday saw the Mozambique star score his fourth league goal of the season and sixth in all competitions. Sporting will host Moreirense next Friday before facing Rio Ave again for the cup second leg the following Wednesday.
