Prosper Obah is leading the charge for Ukraine Premier League side LNZ Cherkasy, who are now in second place after the Nigerian’s brace powered them to a 2-0 victory at SC Poltava on Friday.
The 21-year-old now has seven goals in his last nine matches for LNZ, moving him to the top of the league’s scoring charts. Obah’s opener in the 31st minute showcased his abilities with the forward collecting a long pass on the right wing before running at the Poltava defense and curling in an excellent finish with his left foot.
Soon after the hour mark, the former Vizela player finished the job for LNZ against the league’s last place team. After Poltava did a poor job clearing a lofted free kick into the penalty area, Obah looped a shot beyond the reach of the goalkeeper and his defense to secure three points for the visitors who are now only one point back of leaders Shakhtar Donetsk.
The attacker, who typically operates on the right wing for LNZ, is enjoying a strong first season in Ukrainian football. Obah made his first move to European club football soon after his 18th birthday, joining Portuguese second tier side Vizela from Supreme Kings Football Academy in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State.
After spending a couple of seasons with Vizela’s reserve team, Prosper Obah graduated to the senior team for the 2024-25 season where he produced 5 goals and 2 assists in 32 matches as Vizela just missed out on promotion to the Portuguese top tier.
His impressive season inspired LNZ to purchase Obah from Vizela, where he is leading the club to new heights in their third season since earning promotion to the Premier League.
