PSL announces MTN8 kickoff times and venues for 2025/26 season opener

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has officially announced the kickoff times and venues for the highly anticipated 2025 MTN8 tournament, marking the exciting start of the 2025/26 football season.

The MTN8, featuring the top eight teams from the previous Betway Premiership campaign, is set to commence on the first weekend of August with a series of compelling fixtures.

Defending champions Orlando Pirates will kick off their quest for a fourth consecutive title against Polokwane City FC at their home ground, Orlando Stadium, on Saturday, August 2, with kickoff scheduled for 15h00.

The Buccaneers have an impressive history in this competition, having secured the trophy for three successive years under their former head coach, Jose Riveiro. In the previous campaign, Pirates triumphed over Stellenbosch FC with a 3-1 victory in the final at Moses Mabhada Stadium. Under the guidance of their new coach, Abdeslam Ouaddou, Pirates will be looking for a strong start to their MTN8 campaign.

In another intriguing fixture on the same day, Sekhukhune United will go head-to-head with TS Galaxy at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium at 18h00. Sekhukhune finished fourth in the league standings, while Galaxy ended the season in fifth. Given both clubs’ recent displays of entertaining football, this match promises to be an eye-catching showdown.

Sunday, August 3, will feature two more captivating encounters. Stellenbosch FC will host AmaZulu at the DHL Stadium, with kickoff set for 15h00. After reaching the final last season, Stellenbosch will be determined to go all the way and claim the R8 million prize money this year.

The final fixture of the opening weekend will see Mamelodi Sundowns clash with Richards Bay FC at Lucas Moripe Stadium. The match between Richards Bay and the reigning league champions will kick off at 18h00. Sundowns will be aiming to end their MTN8 drought, as they haven’t lifted the trophy since their success in 2021.
