PSL side appoint European veteran as Director of Football

PSL side Cape Town City FC has heralded a new era in its technical leadership, announcing the appointment of seasoned European coach Andries Ulderink as the club’s new Director of Football.

Ulderink, a highly respected figure with a deep pedigree in international football, steps into the critical role to oversee the club’s entire football operation. His resume boasts key technical and coaching positions at elite European clubs, including Ajax Amsterdam, Reading FC, Royal Antwerp, and Bayer Leverkusen.

A Vision for Long-Term Growth For The PSL Side

The appointment signals a firm commitment from the Citizens to technical excellence and strategic growth within the South African football landscape. Ulderink’s primary focus will be on strengthening player development, refining recruitment, and integrating a consistent, long-term football strategy across all levels of the club.

Chairman of the PSL outfit John Comitis expressed excitement over the strategic alignment, calling the moment opportune for a significant rebuild.

“The appointment of Andries marks a significant step in Cape Town City FC’s commitment to technical excellence and long-term growth within South African football,” Comitis stated. “The club finds itself in the prime moment to begin a genuine rebuild of its football structures, and Andries will be critical in charting that path forward for City. His experience operating at the highest levels of global football will be a massive asset.”

Ulderink Ready to Get to Work

Ulderink himself conveyed his enthusiasm for the project, acknowledging the club’s foundation and its potential.

“I’m happy to be here and ready to play my part in helping this club get back to where it belongs,” said Ulderink. “City has a proud history and incredible supporters, and I’m excited to be part of the project ahead.”

The Dutch expert’s arrival is expected to inject a new level of high-performance structure and elite coaching expertise into the club, potentially reshaping not only the Citizens’ future but also contributing significantly to the broader landscape of South African football development.

With this appointment, CT City will also look to gain promotion back to the Betway Premiership as they were relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship last season.
