The “Purple White Army” has a new recruit from South Africa. PSL side Siwelele FC have officially sanctioned the transfer of their highly-rated young forward, Siviwe Mgidigidi, to Belgian First Division B side K Beerschot VA.
The move comes just days after the club confirmed they were locked in advanced negotiations with the European outfit. Mgidigidi, an instrumental figure for the South African national Under-20 side -Amajita departs the PSL after a steady rise that began with his graduation from SuperSport United’s DStv Diski Challenge side during the 2023/24 campaign.
Mgidigidi’s move to Europe follows a string of impressive performances on both the domestic and international stages. A key member of the Amajita squad at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup, the 20-year-old had been enjoying a productive season in South Africa, netting four goals and providing an assist before the Belgian side came calling.
He joins a Beerschot side currently embroiled in a high-stakes promotion race. Sitting third in the Belgian second tier, Beerschot trail leaders SK Beveren—who feature fellow South African Kurt Abrahams—by 15 points, and are nine points adrift of second-placed KV Kortrijk, the current home of Cassius Mailula.
The move sees Mgidigidi join a growing exodus of elite South African talent heading to Europe, following in the footsteps of youngsters like Shandre Campbell, Tylon Smith, and Ime Okon.
In an official statement, Siwelele expressed their pride in seeing their academy product make the leap to a major European market.
“We are delighted to see Mgidigidi take the next step in his journey. Few players earn the chance to move to Europe at 20 years old, and we have every confidence that he will seize this opportunity and continue to develop his talent,” the club stated.
While Mgidigidi’s exit leaves a void in the frontline, the club was quick to reassure supporters that they are already working on reinforcements for the second half of the season.
“He departs with our appreciation and respect. Supporters can look forward to the announcement of new signings in the coming days as we reinforce the squad and push to deliver the results our fans deserve.”
