The transfer of Orlando Pirates defender Mbokazi to the American side did not please some quarters in South Africa last month. Bafana Bafana coach Broos openly described the move as a downgrade, saying the centre-back deserved to play in a top league elsewhere.
However, Chicago Fire are not listening to such discouraging talk from Broos and other critics. The MLS team has gone ahead to announce the signing of the winger Dithejane from TS Galaxy FC for a reported transfer fee of €1.3 million.
In a statement, the American side says the Betway Premiership star, who passed through Chiefs’ academy, has signed a four-year contract. The deal has a club option of an extension for the 2030-31 season.
“In welcoming Puso to Chicago, we’re adding one of South Africa’s best young, attacking players to our team,” Chicago Fire FC Director of Football and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter told the club’s website.
“His dynamic energy will add depth to our squad this season, while also setting the foundation for him to continue developing and strengthening the team for many seasons to come.”
