Late drama as Pyramids held by Al Masry in thrilling Egyptian League draw

Pyramids FC were forced to settle for a dramatic 1-1 draw against Al Masry in a tense Nile Egyptian League title-phase clash at Suez Stadium on Saturday evening, in the second round of the championship stage.

The match remained goalless for most of the contest before Al Masry broke the deadlock in the 77th minute through Karim Bambo from the penalty spot. Referee awarded the penalty after Ahmed El Karmouty’s shot struck the hand of Pyramids left-back Mohamed Hamdy inside the area, allowing Bambo to convert successfully.

Pyramids’ task became even harder four minutes later when Palestinian midfielder Hamed Hamdan was sent off in the 81st minute after receiving his second yellow card following a challenge on El Karmouty.

Despite being reduced to ten men, Pyramids found a dramatic equalizer deep into stoppage time. In the 93rd minute, substitute striker Marwan Hamdy reacted quickest to tap in the rebound after Ahmed Atef Kotta’s effort saved by Al Masry goalkeeper Essam Tharwat.

The drama continued as Al Masry were also reduced to ten men in added time when Mohamed Makhlouf was shown a second yellow card for a foul against Mahmoud Zalaka.

Moments later, Pyramids were awarded a penalty in the 99th minute after an alleged foul on Ahmed Atef Kotta inside the box. However, Marwan Hamdy failed to complete the comeback, as his penalty in the 102nd minute was saved by Essam Tharwat, preserving the draw for Al Masry after more than 100 minutes of action.

The result sees Pyramids move to 44 points in second place in the Nile Egyptian League standings, handing a significant advantage to leaders Zamalek, who remain top with 46 points. Al Masry rise to 33 points in fifth place after earning a point in Emad El Nahhas’ first match in charge.
