Croatian coach Krunoslav Jurcic, head coach of Pyramids FC, confirmed that his team’s emphatic 3-0 victory over Morocco’s RS Berkane in the fourth round of the CAF Champions League group stage was extremely important and a true reflection of Pyramids’ real strength.
Speaking during the post-match press conference, Jurcic described the match as a tough challenge against a highly experienced side in continental competitions, stressing that the result underlines Pyramids’ strong technical quality and their ability to compete seriously in Africa’s premier club tournament.
The Pyramids coach explained that the win provided the team with a significant level of comfort ahead of the final two matches in the group stage, noting that the club’s position in the group has improved considerably following this victory.
Jurcic also pointed out that domestic league matches can sometimes pose a greater challenge than African competitions. He explained that facing lower-ranked teams often carries more risk than playing against top sides, due to differences in playing styles and the pressure placed on his team to secure victories.
Addressing the squad’s condition, Jurcic confirmed that several players still need more time to reach their optimal physical and technical levels. He attributed this to the absence of some key players during important periods, as they were away with their national teams participating in international tournaments.
The Pyramids head coach also praised Congolese striker Fiston Mayele, describing him as a very important component of the team and a constant threat to opponents’ goal.
He highlighted Mayele’s positive performance against RS Berkane alongside Nasser Maher. Jurcic noted that Mayele’s limited playing time with the DR Congo national team during the Africa Cup of Nations affected his readiness, similar to what happened at the start of the season when he missed part of the team’s preparation. Nevertheless, he emphasized that Mayele remains a top-class player and a major addition to the squad.
Jurcic concluded his remarks by stressing that all players will be given opportunities to feature in the coming period, underlining that every player who gets a chance must make the most of it to prove their readiness to be part of the starting lineup.
