Pyramids FC miss out on a midfielder as Al-Wakrah insist on holding player’s stay

Egypt international Hamdi Fathi will remain at Al-Wakrah SC, as the Qatari club blocked his close move to Pyramids FC during the current transfer window.

According to Al Arab newspaper in Qatar, the coaching staff at Al-Wakrah insisted on keeping Fathi, rejecting Pyramids’ approach for the experienced midfielder.

Reports in recent days had suggested that the 30-year-old was close to joining Pyramids, with personal terms already agreed between both parties. However, the move ultimately fell through.

Fathi, a former Al Ahly SC player, joined Al-Wakrah in the summer of 2023. Since then, he has played 50 matches, scoring 4 goals and providing 3 assists, despite primarily operating as a defensive midfielder.

He was part of the squad in Al-Wakrah’s 2024 Qatari League Cup triumph.

Before his move to Qatar, Fathi had a highly successful stint with Al Ahly, featuring in 155 matches, scoring 14 goals, and delivering 10 assists. During his time in Cairo, he lifted numerous trophies including:

After the 2024-2025 season ended in Qatar, Fathi returned to Al Ahly on a short loan spell to take part in the FIFA Club World Cup hosted in the United States. He played three matches in the tournament and registered one assist.
