Pyramids FC has officially sent a letter to the Egyptian Professional Clubs Association requesting the postponement of the team’s scheduled match against Ceramica Cleopatra in the final round of the title phase of the league, which is set to take place on May 28 at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium in Ismailia.
The request comes due to the team's involvement in the first and second legs of the CAF Champions League final against South African side Mamelodi Sundowns.
In its official letter, Pyramids FC stated that it is requesting the postponement of the match to be held at a later date in order to support the club in its national mission representing Egyptian football in the CAF Champions League final against Sundowns.
The club revealed in its letter that the team will be in Pretoria to play the first leg starting on May 19 and will return on May 25.
The club described it as unreasonable to play a decisive league match on May 28 — just 48 hours later — and only 72 hours before the second leg of the Champions League final, scheduled for June 1 at the Air Defense Stadium.
The club clarified that it is fully confident that the Professional Clubs Association will share its opinion on the need to support Pyramids FC in its national mission.
The club referred to the continuous support provided to Egyptian clubs that raised Egypt’s name in continental finals in previous seasons. Therefore, they believe that the Association will not abandon its national responsibility to continue supporting Egypt’s representative in the final of the continent's most prestigious tournament.
Pyramids FC is competing for three titles this season, including the CAF Champions League. The team also currently sits in second place in the Nile Egyptian League standings with 47 points, just two points behind leaders Al Ahly with three rounds remaining. Additionally, Pyramids has qualified for the Egypt Cup final against Zamalek, scheduled for June 5.
