Pyramids FC claimed a hard-fought 1-0 home win over Ismaily in the second round of the Nile Egyptian League on Thursday evening.
Substitute striker Marwan Hamdy made the difference in the 83rd minute, heading in the decisive goal from a corner delivered by fellow substitute Mostafa Fathi. Soon after Hamdy’s goal, Pyramids coach Krunoslav Jurčić was sent off as well as Blati Touré shortly after with both player and coach receiving second yellow cards.
Despite mounting several attacks, Pyramids found it difficult to break down a resilient Ismaily side that held firm for much of the match. However, the victory allows Pyramids to steady themselves after being held to a goalless draw by National Bank in their opening fixture.
In other games from Thursday, Ceramica Cleopatra and ZED played out a goalless draw while Modern Sport jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead before defeating Al Ittihad Alexandria 2-1.
In the final game of the day, new signing Mounder Temine scored his first goal for Al Masry as they cruised to a 3-0 victory at El Gaish.
