Croatian coach Krunoslav Jurcic, manager of Pyramids FC, expressed his great satisfaction with the club’s progress and reaching this important stage of competing in the Intercontinental Cup as champions of Africa. He added that he is eagerly looking forward to facing Auckland City and beginning the journey in such a major tournament.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Jurcic firmly rejected the notion of underestimating the New Zealand side, stressing that it is completely unacceptable to describe Auckland City as an amateur club. He explained that the team is highly experienced in this competition, having participated several times, in addition to holding a long training camp in the UAE to prepare well for the encounter. “They are not a weak team and the match will not be easy,” he emphasized.
The coach confirmed that Pyramids will only be missing two players — Mahmoud Marei and Mostafa Fathi — due to injury, while the rest of the squad is fully ready. He stressed that he will choose the most suitable lineup for such an important clash, noting that his team’s ambitions have no limits and expressing full confidence in the players’ ability to overcome this stage and win everything.
Pyramids, the champions of Africa, will host Oceania champions Auckland City on Sunday, 14 September at 6 p.m GMT. on Sunday at the Air Defense Stadium in Cairo in the opening game of the Intercontinental Cup.
This is the club’s first-ever participation in the Intercontinental Cup, a competition organized by FIFA, after winning the latest edition of the CAF Champions League.
The winner of the Pyramids–Auckland City tie will advance to face Al Ahli of Saudi Arabia, the Asian champions, in Jeddah on September 23 in the second stage of the competition for the Confederations Cup title.
