Pyramids held to goalless draw by newly-promoted Wadi Degla in Nile Egyptian League opener

The new season of the Nile Egyptian League kicked off today, with last season’s runners-up Pyramids opening their campaign against newly-promoted Wadi Degla.

It was a disappointing start for Pyramids as the match ended in a goalless draw, with few moments of quality on display.

The game took an early turn when Moroccan midfielder Walid El Karti was shown a straight red card in the 17th minute for a dangerous challenge, leaving Pyramids to play more than 70 minutes with ten men.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Pyramids pushed forward but failed to find the breakthrough. Wadi Degla, meanwhile, were reduced to ten men themselves in the 63rd minute when Mahmoud Talaat received a second yellow card just seven minutes after his first booking.

With both sides unable to capitalize, the match finished 0-0, giving each team their first point of the season.
