In a surprising move, ES Mostaganem have officially announced the signing of former Algeria international goalkeeper Rais M’Bolhi.

M’Bolhi is widely regarded as one of Algeria’s most iconic goalkeepers of the past decade, having been a key figure in historic moments for the national team — notably his heroics at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and his leadership in guiding Algeria to victory in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. He also represented the Desert Foxes at the 2010 World Cup and lifted the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup.

The 39-year-old’s last official match came on December 28, 2023, for CR Belouizdad against CS Constantine, before traveling to Ivory Coast for the Africa Cup of Nations. Unfortunately, a serious injury sidelined him for the tournament and prematurely ended his season.

Following a lengthy rehabilitation program that concluded on June 30, 2024, M’Bolhi parted ways with CR Belouizdad and spent a full season out of competition. His move to ES Mostaganem signals a new chapter in his career.
