Ramoreboli names preliminary AFCON squad for Botswana

With the clock ticking towards the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Morocco, Botswana’s coach Morena Ramoreboli has started the groundwork for his squad composition.

The South African, who made a name in Botswana during his successful tenure with top club Jwaneng Galaxy, has named a bloated 55-member squad for the forthcoming competition scheduled for December.

The former Bafana Bafana gaffer released the preliminary squad for the Zebras on Thursday. Richards Bay FC’s defender Benson Mangolo is the only South Africa-based player in the party.

Other notable inclusions include Wydad Athletic Club striker Tumisang Orebonye, former Kaizer Chiefs defender and skipper Thatayaone Ditlhokwe of Al-Ittidad.

The rest of the players are drawn from local clubs such as league champions Gaborone United and Township Rollers FC.

What we know about Botswana and AFCON

Botswana are set to make their second appearance at the AFCON finals in Morocco following their disastrous debut of 2012 when they lost all their group stage matches.

This time around the Zebras will compete in Group D against former champions Senegal, DR Congo and Benin.

Ahead of the tournament, Botswana’s delegation will travel to North Africa for camp training to acclimatize for the Morocco competition before releasing a final squad.
