Rangers manager concerned as Cyriel Dessers suffers injury

Rangers manager Russell Martin has given an update on Cyriel Dessers’ injury after the Nigerian striker left the pitch in discomfort during Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League qualifier against Viktoria Plzen.

Dessers was forced to leave the pitch in discomfort and was later seen wearing a knee brace during Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat to Viktoria Plzen. Despite the loss, the Scottish side advanced to the next round as they won the first leg 3-0 at home.

The incident occurred in the second half of the match at the Doosan Arena in Plzeň, Czech Republic. Dessers, who has been a pivotal figure in Rangers’ attack, went down clutching his knee.

Martin, while providing an update on Dessers’ condition following the match, told the Glasgow Times that the striker’s injury seems to be bad.

“Yes, it looks like a nasty one, so he’s in a brace now,” said the Rangers manager.

“We’ll have to just wait and see over the next couple of days, have a scan and see. We’ll keep our fingers crossed it’s not too bad for a big man.”

Despite a performance that left manager Russell Martin unimpressed, Rangers have advanced to the next round of the Champions League qualifiers. They will face Club Brugge after securing a 4-2 aggregate victory over Viktoria Plzen.

The first leg will be at Ibrox next Tuesday, with the return at the Jan Breydel Stadium in Belgium on 26 August.
