WAFCON: Rasheedat Ajibade expresses disappointment over CAF decision

Nigeria international Rasheedat Ajibade has expressed her disappointment following the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) decision to postpone the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Following months of speculation, CAF officially announced on Thursday that the competition—originally scheduled to kick off in Morocco on March 17—has been moved to July 2026.

The continent’s soccer governing body stated the decision was made due to “unforeseen circumstances.”

The Super Falcons star took to her X (formerly Twitter) account to voice her frustration.

“African women’s football deserves better.”

The delay comes as a significant blow to the 16 qualified teams, most of whom had already intensified preparations.

During the recent international window, several nations engaged in high-profile friendlies, including Nigeria, who played two matches against the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon to fine-tune their squad.

The WAFCON 2026 finals are now scheduled to run from July 25 to August 16, 2026.

While rumors of a venue change have circulated, CAF’s latest communication maintains that Morocco will remain the host nation.
