Spanish giants Real Madrid have expressed their condolences following the passing of Egyptian goalkeeper Mohamed Abou El-Naga, widely known as “Bonga”, who played for Wadi Degla and represented Egypt’s national team for local-based players.
In a statement posted on the club’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, Real Madrid wrote:
“Real Madrid, its president and its Board of Directors deeply regret the passing of Bonga, goalkeeper of Wadi Degla and international with Egypt. The club expresses its condolences and affection to his family, loved ones, teammates, and his club. May he rest in peace.”

Bonga passed away on Saturday at a hospital in the city of 6th of October.
The goalkeeper had been battling serious health complications involving his digestive system and liver. He was also diagnosed with jaundice and was hospitalized in Ismailia shortly after the conclusion of the Egyptian Second Division season.
Abou El-Naga had been previously called up for the Egyptian national team for locally based players in the 2024 CHAN qualifiers.
