CAFCL: Reghecamp trashes Al-Hilal victory prediction over RS Berkane

Al-Hilal Omdurman coach Laurentiu Reghecamp has dismissed talk that he predicted his team’s victory over RS Berkane in Saturday’s CAF Champions League (CAFCL) quarterfinal match in Morocco.

In a pre-match interview with the Sudanese team’s media, the Romanian clarified that he simply promised that his team will give its best in the quarter final first-leg match at Stade Municipal de Berkane. Kick-off is 10pm GMT.

Reghecamp stressed that all Champions League quarter-finalists are good enough to win matches, hence, chances are open for all those that will apply themselves fully in 90 minutes.

Reghecamp recognises RS Berkane’s credentials

“Both teams deserve to be in this stage,” the coach said. “I am very happy to be here. The best teams in Africa will play the games. Every game is tough, every game is nice and every game starts from 50-50. Everything is possible. It is football.

“We will meet a very good team with a lot of experience as they have already won one big competition in Africa. If we are in this stage of the competition, it means we are one of the top teams in the Champions League, and the same is the case with Berkane.”

The Al-Hilal gaffer then clarified that he never declared that his Rwanda-based outfit will beat RS Berkane.

“Sorry, but I didn’t mention that we will win Berkane,” he explained. “I told you that we came here to play our football and try to do our best. We have analysed Berkane very well. It is a very strong team. The game is very open for every result. Both teams have very experienced and very good players. I am sure they will give everything to win the game.”

Al-Hilal reached the quarterfinal stage, alongside Mamelodi Sundowns, after beating FC Saint Eloi Lupopo 1-0 on February 14 to lead Group C.
