CAFCL: Reghecampf targets winning start as Al Hilal face MC Alger

Al Hilal Omdurman coach Laurentiu Reghecampf says his charges will try to win their CAF Champions League game against Algerian champions MC Alger.

The Sudanese giants are hosting their matches at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, Rwanda.

The Romanian head coach praised his opponents in their opening match. “Our opponents like to play football. You don’t find many teams in Africa doing that. But our focus remains on doing our best and winning the game on Friday.”

Al Hilal have yet to play competitive matches after securing their qualification to the group stages of the Champions League at the expense of Kenya Police. The ongoing civil war in Sudan has forced local clubs to either disband or play their football elsewhere.

“The situation for our players has changed. They have been playing outside their country for years now. The atmosphere and feeling are not the same. We don’t know when we will play at home again with our fans supporting us. But we now have to adapt to this particular situation,” said Reghecampf.

Al Hilal reached the quarter-finals of last season’s Champions League after beating MC Alger in the group stages. They hope to achieve the same feat under Reghecampf.
