Madagascar’s Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Malagasy Football Federation have tabled a contract renewal for national team head coach Corentin Martins. The French coach has been at the helm of the Madagascar national side since January 2025.
Several sources in Madagascar reported that Martins is leaving his post after the end of his contract. The change of leadership after a coup in Madagascar and the financial constraints of the football federation were among the reasons for Martins’s departure.
The 56-year-old trainer was among the list of names that have been mentioned to take the Tunisia national team job. Nonetheless, according to local outlet 2424.mg, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Alain Désiré Rasambany, confirmed a new development regarding Martins’s contractual situation.
The minister stated that Martins will be offered a new contract, as an agreement has been reached between the federation and the government. In Madagascar, both the federation and the government share the monthly salary expense of the coach.
Since taking on the Madagascar job, Martins has been in charge of seven games in all competitions and has won four. Madagascar, under the former Libya coach, has had a good run during the 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifiers. Martins is expected to respond to the contract renewal offer next week.
