A rare player outburst goes viral in the Egyptian Second Division League

A rare and controversial incident unfolded during the Egyptian Second Division League match between Al Mokawloon Al Arab and Al Mansoura, involving young Al Mansoura player Ahmed Shaheen, aged 19. His reaction to being substituted and subsequent retirement announcement has sparked discussions in the Egyptian football community.


The Incident


Minute 60: Ahmed Shaheen was brought on as a substitute for Al Mansoura.


Minute 70: Just 10 minutes later, head coach Alaa Nouh made the decision to substitute Shaheen again.


Player Reaction: Initially, Shaheen refused to leave the field but eventually complied, visibly unsatisfied. As he walked off, a member of the coaching staff tried to console him, but Shaheen broke free and approached his coach to confront him.

The score was 2-0 against Al Mansoura when Shaheen entered the game.


By the time of his substitution, the team had fallen further behind and was trailing 3-0.


Coach’s Justification


After the match, Alaa Nouh explained his decision stating that the player had failed to follow tactical instructions so he decided to substitute him.


Player’s Response


In a surprising turn of events, Ahmed Shaheen took to his official Facebook page after the game to announce his decision to retire from football, despite being just 19 years old. Also he apologized to the fans and the club board of directors.


He wrote:


"First of all, I apologize to the fans of Al Mansoura Club, and I apologize to the board of directors of Al Mansoura Club. I wish the best for this great entity. I will always remain a supporter and fan of my hometown. I have decided to stop playing football permanently. If I acted wrongly, it was beyond my control, and I hope anyone can put themselves in my place."


Reflection


This incident is both unfortunate and rare to happen, highlighting the mental and emotional pressures that may face young players. It also raises questions about how such situations are managed by coaching staff in competitive environments.
