After an extended spell of scoring exploits in Belgian club football, Togo national team and Cercle Brugge striker Kévin Denkey appears set for a transfer to Major League Soccer of the United States for a reported eight-figure fee. MLS insider and GIVEMESPORT contributor Tom Bogert reports that FC Cincinnati, former home of Gabon national team striker Aaron Boupendza, is in the process of bringing Denkey into the club. Bogert reported on his X account that the transfer fee is in the region of $15 million which would make it among the highest fees ever spent by an MLS club.

Denkey continues to terrorize defenses in the Belgian Pro League where last season he accumulated 27 goals as the league's top scorer. Denkey's performances helped Cercle Brugge to a 4th place finish at the conclusion of the 2023-24 Belgian Pro League campaign, good enough for the club to qualify for UEFA competition for the first time in thirteen years.

The Lomé native currently has 11 goals in 23 appearances across all competitions this season and appears to be the perfect fit for a Cincinnati side that has become one of the strongest clubs in MLS but lacks a dependable striker. Cincinnati crashed out of the MLS playoffs on Saturday with a penalty kick defeat at home against New York City, continuing a trend of strong campaigns in the regular season only to fall short of expectations in the playoffs.

Denkey, who moved to France at a young age, has 69 goals in 147 appearances over four-and-a-half seasons for Cercle Brugge after previously representing Nîmes and Béziers in French football. He has 8 goals in 34 appearances for Togo who need two wins during the international break this week to have any chance of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
