Club Africain board members collectively resigned from their posts on May 15, the club confirmed. The statement from the club did not disclose the reasons behind the board members’ decision to step down.
The club administration revealed that a new election will take place in June. Some sources have suggested that another season without any trophies may have prompted the board of directors to leave at the end of the campaign.
It has now been a decade since Club Africain last won a league title. The Tunis-based club lost the league title this season to cross-city rivals Espérance de Tunis, finishing fourth and consequently missing out on a spot in next season’s CAF Champions League.
The final nail in the coffin came just three days after the board's resignation, as the club suffered a 3-0 defeat in the Tunisian Cup quarterfinals against Ligue 1 runners-up US Monastir. Fans voiced their frustration over the club’s disappointing league finish and another season without a title. The new board election is scheduled for June 12.
Changes in the club’s administration are expected this summer, as Club Africain aims to start the next season on a high note. The club’s main objectives will be to win titles and return to CAF club competitions.
