Angolan international Deivi Miguel Vieira (Gilberto) has left Orlando Pirates in South Africa and is returning home to rejoin Petro de Luanda on loan.
Pirates have released a statement confirming the departure of the winger barely five months after he joined the Soweto giants from Petro de Luanda.
"Orlando Pirates has reached an agreement for the loan transfer of Angolan international Gilberto to Petro de Luanda for the remainder of the season. The move sees Gilberto return to his hometown club, pending the successful completion of a medical," the statement reads.
Pirates signed the right-winger from Petro on a three-year deal but the Angola national team player found life difficult in the bright lights of Johannesburg, making only eight appearances in league play and eleven across all competitions without scoring let alone providing an assist.
Gilberto joined the Buccaneers after two seasons with Petro where he produced 21 goals and 10 assists in 68 games, winning Angola's top division Girabola both seasons as well as one Angolan Cup title and the nation's Super Cup on one occasion. The enterprising forward had an impressive 2024 season where he starred at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast earlier that year, scoring one goal in the finals and helping Angola to the quarter-finals of the competition.
