Former UDG Tenerife forward Rinsola Babajide has expressed her excitement at being named among the 24 players selected to represent the Nigeria women's national team at the upcoming 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, which will take place 5-26 July.

Babajide received her first call-up to the Super Falcons in October 2023 and made her debut on October 25, 2023, starting in a 1-1 draw against Ethiopia during the 2024 Olympic qualifying matches.

The forward took to her X (formerly Twitter) account to express that the call up is a great honour for her.

“I am going to my first senior major tournament. It is the greatest honour knowing I will be representing my country at the African Cup of Nations. Thank you for all the love and support up until this point.”

This will be Babajide’s debut at a senior continental championship, and she joins a squad aiming to secure Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title.

In preparation for the tournament, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has arranged two high-profile friendly matches. The Super Falcons are scheduled to face Portugal in Lisbon on Monday, 23rd June before squaring off against Ghana’s Black Queens in Morocco on Sunday, 29th June.

Nigeria will compete in Group B alongside Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria, with all matches scheduled to be played at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.
