Outgoing Orlando Pirates tactician, Jose Riveiro, has explained the reasons behind his confidence in the club's continued success under their incoming coach next season.
Ending a fruitful three-year spell that began in 2022, Riveiro will part ways with Pirates when his contract expires at the end of the current season. His successful tenure saw the Buccaneers lift five trophies: three MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cups.
The Spanish coach still has a chance to make his mark even further, with the Soweto giants set to compete against Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup final on Saturday, 10 May at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
In the post-match press conference after Pirates' hard-fought 2-1 win over Golden Arrows in the league on Tuesday evening, Riveiro emphasised that the club's progress is a collective effort, not solely dependent on his presence.
He believes the incoming coach will inherit a strong foundation and receive ample support from Pirates' management to build upon the existing platform. Riveiro also pointed to the club's institutional strength and a clear vision as key factors ensuring a bright future for the former CAF Champions League winners, Pirates.
“This is a club project, not a Riveiro project, said Riveiro. “The club knows what they are doing. Whoever is coming will be the right person, will have the support, and will find themselves on a good platform to continue where we’re going to stop at the end of the season.
“Football is a cycle, and Orlando Pirates is a huge institution; nothing is going to change because Riveiro is in or out.
“The Buccaneers don’t need to be concerned about that because the future is brilliant for the club, and it’s going to be alright," he added.
