Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has revealed the key area that must be worked on before their next Betway Premiership fixture.
The Buccaneers suffered a shock 1-0 defeat against Sekhukhune United on their return to league action, to remain 12 points behind table leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who secured a commanding 3-0 win against Richards Bay in another fixture on Wednesday.
“Yeah, obviously the set piece is an element that we need to [work on] and we're doing it, we're trying to get better to minimise our deficits in those situations, like every other team,” Riveiro said as quoted by SABC Sports.
“I think during the whole season we were quite solid and dominating in those situations but it's true that for whatever reason in the last games we are suffering a little bit more and sometimes the opponent is more accurate but I think it's something that we are hands-on every week. It's not or shouldn't be something to panic about, we'll get it right.”
On the team’s overall display in the home defeat, Riveiro said: “Before they scored the game was totally under control in terms of possession and territorial control. Not really accumulating enough contacts in Sekhukhune, not dangerous shots on target but I think the first half was clearly for us in terms of transitions on our right side but nothing much.
“I think in the second half the feeling on our side was that there was a goal coming, I think we were much better in the beginning of the season half. We had a couple of chances also in set pieces and in one corner they managed to get a lead and I think after that we were not the team that we should be and that we want to be.”
Pirates will shift to their derby clash against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
