Algeria national team star Riyad Mahrez expressed his great happiness at playing in front of Saudi fans in the city of Jeddah, after Algeria beat Saudi Arabia 2-0, where Al Ahli Jeddah star scored a penalty.
Speaking after the game, the Desert Foxes captain said:
“I’m very happy to play in my city, Jeddah, in front of the Saudi fans.”
Mahrez noted that the first half of the match was balanced, before Algeria stepped up in the second half to secure the win:
“The first half was evenly matched, but we scored two goals and made the difference in the second half. We are happy with the result.”
Regarding future ambitions, Mahrez voiced his confidence in Algeria’s ability to compete for the upcoming titles:
“I believe we can win the Arab Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations.”
The Algerian captain also stressed the good relationship he shares with Saudi head coach Hervé Renard:
“My relationship with Hervé Renard is excellent, and there is mutual respect between us.”
