Riyad Mahrez wins Goal of the Week after excellent display in Roshn Saudi League

Al-Ahli SC’s Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez has been awarded the Goal of the Week for Matchday 28 of the Saudi Pro League (Roshn League) after scoring a precise goal to conclude his side’s big 5-0 victory over Al Fayha.

The Algerian star found the net in the 82nd minute, receiving a pass before driving into the penalty area and unleashing a precise low strike to the right of the goalkeeper.

Mahrez’s brilliance was not limited to the goal. He had already assisted three goals and won a penalty earlier in the game, capping off one of his finest performances yet since moving to Ahli in July 2023.

The 33-year-old has now scored six goals and provided nine assists in the Saudi Pro League this season, placing him fourth in the league’s assist rankings. Across all competitions, Mahrez has contributed 14 goals and 17 assists so far this season with Al-Ahli.

This match marked only the second time in Mahrez’s career that he has been directly involved in four goals in a single game. The first came during Algeria’s 7-1 victory over Ethiopia in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where Mahrez registered four assists.

Al-Ahli currently sit fourth in the Roshn League standings with 55 points, trailing league leaders Al Ittihad by 13 points. They are also involved in the AFC Champions League where they will face Thailand’s Buriram United in the quarterfinals on April 26.
