Rooney picks Semenyo, Mbeumo among top three Premier League strikers

Former England star Wayne Rooney has named Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo as one of the top three best players in the Premier League this season.

While listing his top three strikers for the Premier League currently, Rooney also mentioned Manchester United and Cameroon striker Bryan Mbeumo, and Arsenal’s new signing Viktor Gyokeres. In his list, Rooney did not mention Manchester City forward Erling Haaland.

What did Rooney say about Semenyo?

When mentioning the Black Stars striker, the England icon told Amazon Prime as quoted by Liverpool.com: “Top three, probably [Antoine] Semenyo, I think he’s been brilliant for Bournemouth, carrying on his form from last season.”

He added: “I’d also put Bryan Mbeumo in there. I think he’s been really good for Manchester United, even after a difficult start to the season for the club. I think he’s been really good.”

On his third best striker so far, he said: “The third one, I’d probably go with Gyokeres. Arsenal have been crying out for a new number nine for a few years now and he’s come in. His work-rate and his determination to hold up play and he’s obviously scoring a few goals as well so I’d say that’s my top three.”

Semenyo has been in great form for Bournemouth this season. He has scored six goals and provided three assists after making 11 appearances.

For Mbeumo, he has notched an impressive five goals for United in 11 top-flight appearances. He has scored four goals in his last four games for the club, including the opener at Anfield as the Red Devils got the better of bitter rivals Liverpool.

Mbeumo also notched a brace as United overcame Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford.
