Simba SC coach Fadlu Davids has advised Orlando Pirates to look no further than Rulani Mokwena in hiring Jose Riveiro’s replacement.

Speaking in an interview with ex-Orlando Pirates midfielder Michael Morton on YouTube channel Football Is Life, Fadlu Davids touted Mokwena as the perfect fit for the Buccaneers.

“They should look no further than Rulani [Mokwena]. He will be a perfect fit. He knows the club, he knows the chairman, and has a good relationship with the chairman,” he said.

“He plays the type of football that Pirates enjoy. Over that period with Micho [Milutin Sredojevic], they built something that challenged Mamelodi Sundowns.”

Following his exit from the Botola Pro League side, Davids believes Mokwena has now matured to handle the Buccaneers.

“It is a perfect moment. He has matured a lot as a coach. He had a tough time at Wydad, but I think it makes him stronger to come and build his own thing at Pirates. I think this is the right time," added Davids.

Mokwena managed Orlando Pirates after Micho’s sacking in 2019. However, the ex-Wydad Athletic Club coach’s reign with the Soweto giants was unsuccessful. The same was the case with his stint at Chippa United.

Sundowns ended up rehiring the young coach to join Pitso Mosimane on the coaching panel. When Jingles moved to Al Ahly in 2020, the 38-year-old served as a co-coach with Mangoba Mngqithi before taking over last season.

However, the Pretoria-based giants parted ways with the mentor who instantly found a job at Wydad Athletic Club in Morocco. Riveiro will leave Pirates this week, with Tuesday’s game against Lamontville Golden Arrows being his last.
