Simba SC defender Rushine De Reuck has revealed his delight after scoring his first Tanzanian Premier League goal in a 3-0 victory against Fountain Gate FC at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Thursday.
The 29-year-old South African player, who joined the Msimbazi Reds in the last transfer window from Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions Mamelodi Sundowns, opened the scoring with a powerful header before Jean Charles Ahoua, and Ghanaian forward Jonathan Sowa drilled home the second and third respectively.
“Obviously I am very happy, because it was important to start the season on a good way, and we managed to do that, so I am very happy for the win,” De Reuck told Pan-Africa Football after the game.
On scoring the opening goal, he said: “It is a special feeling, even before the game I had the feeling that I will score, so I am very happy that I was able to help the team and contribute with a goal, and it was a very nice feeling to play at home, in front of our fans and to be able to win the game.”
De Reuck continued: “It was an incredible feeling, and hopefully we can continue this way and continue to make our fans proud. It wasn’t an easy game, and it was important for us to go into the game with the fighting mentality, and I am sure if we continue this way, we will be able to win the next match.”
On his part, Simba assistant coach Suleiman Matola praised his side for scoring three goals from different positions and further insisted that the best team won the match.
“We were the best side in all departments, we played a good game in both halves and deserved to win,” said Matola, adding: “It is good we scored three goals, from three departments, a defender, midfielder and striker, and this is the positives I picked from the game.”
Simba will now shift their focus to the CAF Champions League where they are scheduled to host Gaborone United in the return at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Sunday. Simba will head into the first preliminary round fixture carrying a 1-0 advantage.
