FIFA Series: ‘Rwanda should not get carried away’ – Constantine

Rwanda national team coach Stephen Constantine has urged his team to remain level-headed despite starting his second reign with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Grenada in a FIFA Series match on Friday.

In his first match in charge after his recent appointment, the Englishman presided over one of the most impressive displays for Amavubi in the Group A clash, which Rwanda president Paul Kagame witnessed at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.

The hosts sealed the victory courtesy of goals from Hakim Sahabo, Djihad Bizimana, Jojea Kwizera and debutant Mickael Leroy Jacques.

Why Constantine says Rwanda is work in progress

In a reaction as quoted by Rwanda’s New Times newspaper, the former coach for India called for calm, saying his team was still work in progress.

“We’ve only won one game,” Constantine said. “It was a good performance, but we must keep our feet on the ground. There is still a lot of work to do. I don’t want anyone getting carried away because we have tougher games ahead in the coming days.”

The 63-year-old coach said there was a need for more friendlies in the forthcoming FIFA window for international games between June and July to continue with his squad rebuilding.

The Englishman is no stranger to the East African country having managed Amavubi between 2012 and 2013 before picking another job with India national team on a four-year spell from 2015.

FIFA Series matches for Group A revised

Meanwhile, New Times reports that the final between Rwanda and Estonia has been rescheduled to kick off at 19:30 CAT, instead of 21:00 CAT. According to the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA), the revised kick-off time is meant to ease travel arrangements.

Following the revision, Kenya’s game against Grenada is now scheduled for 16:00 CAT instead of 18:00 CAT as previously announced.

Updated Match Schedule:

Kenya vs Grenada — 16:00 CAT

Rwanda vs Estonia — 19:30 CAT
