Sudanese giants Al Hilal Omdurman earned their first victory in the Rwanda Premier League on Wednesday since beginning play in the league as a guest club.
Liberian attacker Emmanuel Flomo scored both goals in a 2-0 victory over Gasogi United at the Kigali Pele Stadium. The former LISCR FC star came on as a halftime substitute to contribute to the victory in sensational fashion.
At the hour mark, Flomo was on hand to produce an acrobatic finish to put Hilal ahead. Without many of their Sudanese stars due to 2025 FIFA Arab Cup duty, Hilal leaned on their foreign stars and looked noticeably weaker when they began play in Rwanda’s top flight with a 0-0 draw against Police FC.
But Flomo answered the call and followed up his opening goal by doubling his tally shortly after. Receiving a pass to send him in on goal, Flomo produced a composed finish into the top corner to put his side beyond reach.
Elsewhere in the league this week, reigning champions APR FC won 2-1 over Etincelles on Tuesday. Mamadou Sy and Djibril Ouattara scored in the first half to give Intare a halftime lead before holding on for a narrow victory.
Hilal’s rivals in Sudan, Al Merreikh, are also competing in the league and earned their first victory in three matches on Tuesday with a 1-0 result over Rutsiro. Merreikh now have two wins and two defeats from their first four matches while Hilal have a draw and a victory with less league matches played due to their ongoing duties in the CAF Champions League.
The Rwanda Premier League will resume play on Friday with an almost full slate of matches. Hilal, on break from Champions League duty until late January, will resume play next Monday against Mukura Victory Sports.
