Rwanda: Police FC rope in veteran goal poacher Emmanuel Okwi to bolster attack

Veteran Ugandan striker Emmanuel Okwi has officially joined Rwanda Premier League side Police FC, adding firepower and experience to their squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The club confirmed the signing, stating, “We are pleased to welcome Emmanuel Okwi to Police FC.”

Okwi arrives after the expiry of his one-year deal with AS Kigali, where he enjoyed a standout campaign. The former Uganda Cranes captain—who announced his retirement from international football in March this year—remained lethal in front of goal, leading his club’s scoring charts and pushing for the Golden Boot until the final stretch.

Last season, Okwi netted nine goals as AS Kigali secured third place with 49 points, just three strikes shy of the joint-top scorer. His impressive performances earned him a nomination for the Best Player of the Season award.

Police FC are banking on Okwi’s proven record and vast experience in the Rwandan league, having previously featured for Kiyovu Sports.

Over his illustrious career, Okwi has played for several clubs across Africa, Europe, and Asia, including SC Villa (Uganda), Simba SC and Young Africans (Tanzania), Etoile Sportive du Sahel (Tunisia), Ittihad Alexandria (Egypt), Sonderjyske (Denmark), and Al-Zawraa (Iraq).
