Austrian Bundesliga club Wolfsberger AC have officially unveiled Kenya national team striker Ryan Ogam after signing him from Premier League outfit Tusker FC.
Ogam, who joined Tusker in 2023, enjoyed a meteoric rise in both domestic and international football. Originally signed as a midfielder, he was converted into a striker and went on to score 15 goals in 17 appearances in the 2024/25 FKF Premier League season.
However, he rose to fame for Harambee Stars during the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament co-hosted in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, where he scored decisive goals against Morocco and Zambia, further underlined his potential.
He was also on target for Kenya as they suffered a 3-1 defeat against Gambia in their 2025 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixtures before notching a brace in the 5-0 walloping of Seychelles.
In a statement to confirm his arrival, the club said: “Our new player Ryan Wesley Ogam has arrived in Austria – and is making history: as the first Kenyan to play Austrian football.
The Kenyan Embassy in Vienna officially welcomed him and acknowledged his journey so far. Deputy Head of Mission Valerie Rugene stressed that Ogam’s success at the WAC will open doors not only for himself but also for many other Kenyan talents:
“You are now ambassadors for Kenya – represent us well. Ogam has been a key player for Harambee Stars, last convincing at the African Nations Cup and World Cup qualifiers with exceptional skill and dedication. Now an exciting new chapter begins for him in the Austrian Bundesliga with the Wolves.”
Speaking after signing the player, Austrian Wolfsberger AC, club President Dietmar Riegler said: “We are delighted to welcome Ryan Ogam to Wolfsberger AC. He is an exciting young striker with great potential, and we have followed his progress at Tusker FC with keen interest and his recent performance for his county with the National team, Harambee Stars.
“Ryan combines natural talent, discipline, hard work, and a hunger to grow, and we believe he will quickly adapt to the Austrian Bundesliga. His arrival is also a testament to the growing quality of football talent across all levels coming out of Kenya. We are confident he will make a positive impact both on and off the pitch.”
The club is based in Wolfsberg, Carinthia, and competes in the Austrian Football Bundesliga, the top flight of Austrian football, and is known as RZ Pellets WAC for sponsorship purposes.
Wolfsberger established themselves as a stable Bundesliga side and qualified for European competition on multiple occasions, most notably reaching the 2019-20 UEFA Europa League group stage after finishing third in the 2018-19 Bundesliga.
The club claimed its first major honour in 2025, winning the Austrian Cup with a 1-0 victory over TSV Hartberg.
