The South African Football Association (SAFA) has pulled back the curtain on the new home kit for Bafana Bafana and Banyana Banyana, a design that looks back at a legendary past while embracing an inclusive future.

In a detailed unveiling on Tuesday, SAFA explains that the inspiration for the 2026/2027 home strip marks a significant evolution in the national team’s identity, blending 2010 nostalgia with modern performance technology.
The hallmark of the new design is its deep connection to the 2010 FIFA World Cup. While the kit retains the classic “unmistakable yellow” with green trim, the silhouette has been reimagined for the demands of the modern game.
The most striking update lies in the fabric’s pattern. While the 2010 edition featured 11 lines to represent the national languages of the time, the 2026/2027 jersey features a reimagined 12-line pattern. This serves as a proud acknowledgement of South African Sign Language as the nation’s 12th official language.
“Drawing inspiration from the unforgettable 2010 jersey—a symbol of pride during a defining moment for South African football—the new design honours that legacy while stepping confidently into a new era,” SAFA confirmed in an official statement.

SAFA CEO Lydia Monyepao highlighted that this launch is a major step forward for gender-specific performance. Moving away from the “one-size-fits-all” approach, the new range features bespoke fits tailored specifically for the physical requirements of both the men’s and women’s squads.
“The jersey is more than matchday apparel—it is a unifying symbol,” said Monyepao. “Designed with bespoke gender fit considerations, the kit underscores adidas and SAFA’s commitment to the equal elevation of the men’s and women’s game.”
The “Three Stripes” will see immediate action on the continental and global stages. Banyana Banyana are set to debut the kit in just two weeks during the opening day of WAFCON 2026 in Morocco.
Meanwhile, Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana side will showcase the new look in 100 days when they face Mexico in their highly anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup opener.
Tom Brown, Senior Marketing Director for adidas South Africa, noted that the kit reflects the “evolving identity of the nation,” ensuring that as South Africa returns to the world stage, they do so carrying the pulse of the entire country on their chest.
