Ethiopian side Saint George SA confirmed that they have named a new general manager despite a federal court ban on the newly elected board.
Fitsum Kassaye, PhD, is said to be the new general manager of the record Ethiopian champions starting from November 10, while a court ruling awaits the new board.
Pan-Africa Football previously reported that three members of the Ethiopian Premier League club sued the new board at the Federal First Instance Court. The court has blocked the new board from making any decisions until the case is settled, but the club confirmed officially that Kassaye will be responsible for leading the day-to-day activities of the Horsemen.
The controversial Saint George elective general assembly has shown many the deep rift between members. The court told the vying parties to resolve their issues amicably; if not, a court hearing will proceed. Until the issue is resolved, the court has barred the new board from making any decisions.
Long-serving general manager of Saint George, Solomon Bekele, resigned from his post on the 4th of November. Kassaye holds a PhD in leadership and management and has also received a BA degree in law, Saint George stated. The new general manager came to the post during a very difficult period of time, when a leadership crisis had weakened the club.
Saint George failed to state whether the court ban on the new board had been lifted when they named Kassaye as the new manager. According to the law, it is prohibited for a board to decide on matters when a court ban is fully operational.
