Salah urged to stay in Europe after Liverpool exit

Egypt forward Mohamed Salah has been told to stay in Europe despite his decision to announce exit from Premier League outfit Liverpool at the end of the current campaign.

Salah will bid farewell upon the conclusion of his ninth campaign as a Red and as one of the greatest to have ever worn the shirt. The forward reached an agreement with the Reds that will see him close a remarkable nine-year chapter at Anfield.

He expressed his wish to make this announcement to the supporters at the earliest possible opportunity to provide transparency about his future due to his respect and gratitude for them.

Europe stay will be good for Salah

Ibrahim Hassan, the technical director of Egypt, prefers Salah to remain in Europe.

“I would prefer him to stay in Europe,” Hassan told On Sport as quoted by Echo. “I have heard about offers from Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and clubs in the Italian league.

“A move to MLS? He would be far too out of the spotlight. You won’t remember Salah any more than I remember [Lionel] Messi now; I don’t even try to watch him.

“If he does not receive offers from Europe, then a move to the Saudi Pro League would be a good option, especially with big names such as Cristiano Ronaldo.

“After all these years there should be no bad sentiment at all and as far as I’m concerned, I can’t see any.”

Salah made great history with Liverpool

Signed from AS Roma in the summer of 2017, Salah firmly established himself as one of the greatest players in Liverpool’s history, helping the club to two Premier League titles, the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup and two League Cups, as well as an FA Community Shield.

Salah’s tally of 255 goals in 435 appearances to date has the Egyptian sitting third on the Reds’ all-time leading goalscorers chart, winning the Premier League Golden Boot on four occasions in addition to a host of personal accolades.

In 2024-25 campaign, Salah racked up the most goal involvements by a player in a 38-game Premier League season, with 29 goals and 18 assist.

He was named Premier League Player of the Month on seven occasions (November 2017, February 2018, March 2018, October 2021, October 2023, November 2024, February 2025), a record figure shared with Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane
