Liverpool manager Arne Slot has labelled Egypt international Mohamed Salah as a ‘man on a mission’ after his impressive display in the 2-2 Premier League draw against Aston Villa at Villa Park on Wednesday.

Salah opened the scoring for the Reds in the 29th minute before Youri Tielemans and Ollie Watkins put Unai Emery’s side 2-1 ahead at the half-time break. However, it was Salah, who engineered the leveller for Liverpool, setting up Trent Alexander-Arnold to snatch a point on the road.

Speaking after the game, Slot was asked about the Pharaoh, following his goal and an assist. Salah’s goal contributions reached 39 in just 26 Premier League games, with 24 goals and 15 assists.

Asked if Salah, who was voted Man of the Match, was on a mission, Slot replied: “He is, but not only him. I think I could not have asked more today from all the players, they worked so incredibly hard. In a fixture list like we have with so many games, to play two difficult away games at Everton and here, [and] emotional games as well because not only the quality you face.

“You are also against the crowd because they are really helpful at Everton and here again as well. But Mo, yes, a great goal, although Jots [Diogo Jota] deserves a lot of compliments for that goal as well.

“The second one was maybe a bit lucky because it got deflected but we were there so many times in that period of time that it felt to me that we definitely deserved that 2-2 at that moment.”

Salah’s Liverpool will next travel to face Manchester City at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
