Former Nigeria striker Obafemi Martins has urged Samuel Chukwueze to consider leaving AC Milan in order to help improve his Super Eagles performance.
The former Villarreal forward has struggled for game time with the Rossoneri since his arrival in the 2023 summer transfer window.
Chukwueze’s three goals in 23 Serie A games this season has negatively impacted on his minutes dipping his form significantly at national team. Speaking on the situation, Martins weighed in on his regular playing time and suggested a move to a team where he can easily shine.
“The Saudi Pro League is becoming increasingly competitive. If a good offer comes along, why not? The main thing is for him to play and become a regular starter again. Rhythm and confidence are essential for him,” Martins told media men.
“His decline in form at club level is reflected in his performances with the Super Eagles. He absolutely must regain his rhythm if he wants to continue to be a driving force for Nigeria.
“A transfer is a necessity if he wants to retain his place and perform well in the national team.”
Chukwueze, 25, has played 44 times for the three time African champions with six goals to his name. He needs to quickly shape up ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco as well as the World Cup qualifiers which resumes in September.
