Former Zamalek star and Tunisia national team midfielder Ferjani Sassi opened the scoring as he and Algeria's Yacine Brahimi captured the Emir Cup trophy following Al-Gharafa's 2-1 victory over Al Rayyan on Saturday.

While Brahimi did not get a goal or an assist, his intelligent play led to Sassi's goal to give Gharafa a dream start. After drawing a foul, Brahimi played a quick free kick down the left wing to Ahmed Al Ganehi whose cross found the late run of Sassi for the Tunisian to finish.

Former Real Madrid striker Joselu doubled Gharafa's advantage before twenty minutes were gone and a 2-0 halftime advantage was enough to hold off local rivals Al Rayyan, who mounted a fierce resistance in the second half but came up short.

For Sassi, who was named to the Team of the Year last season in the Qatar Stars League, it is his fifth trophy in Qatari football following a successful spell at Al-Duhail and then Gharafa. For Brahimi, who was also in the Team of the Year last season, it is his first trophy in Qatar after six seasons in the country with Al Rayyan and then Gharafa.
