Moroccan goal machine Abderrazak Hamdallah showed his expert poacher instincts once again on Thursday in the Saudi Pro League while compatriot Mourad Batna scored in another important victory for Al Fateh.
Hamdallah, the 34-year-old striker who has made the Saudi Pro League his hunting ground for nearly eight seasons, scored three goals in Al Shabab's 6-0 destruction of Al Orubah. The member of Morocco's historic 2022 FIFA World Cup squad opened the scoring in the 16th minute with an expert finish before adding two penalty kicks in the second half against the overmatched visitors.
The experienced striker now has 146 goals during his time in Saudi Arabia, leaving him only four goals behind Syrian marksman Omar Al Somah who sits third on the league's all-time scoring list. Al Somah, who currently plays for Al Orobah, was not available to play on Thursday.
After sitting at the bottom of the table earlier this year, Al Fateh have climbed out of the relegation zone and are continuing to build on their strong form largely thanks to their North African stars. Argentinean forward Matias Vargas scored twice for the hosts in a 3-1 victory over Al Raed, the first on an assist from Comoros national team midfielder, before Moroccan attacker Mourad Batna converted from the penalty spot.
Batna, the 34-year-old in his fifth season with Al Fateh, now has 8 goals in 19 league appearances this season and is combining forces with Algerian playmaker Sofiane Bendebka to push Fateh to safety. Cameroonian central defender Oumar Gonzalez scored a late consolation for Raed. Fateh are now four points clear of the drop zone.
