SC Villa will use its Annual General Meeting on Sunday, March 1, to open a new chapter of reflection and transition, with members expected to interrogate the club’s past four years while setting sights on the next administration.
The meeting, scheduled to take place in the Kampala suburb of Kulambiro-Ntinda, will be headlined by the presentation of a four-year accountability report from the current leadership. Governance, finances and preparations for the forthcoming presidential elections are all expected to dominate discussions.
Speaking to the media on Saturday at Sixth Street in Kampala, SC Villa spokesperson Asan Kasingye confirmed that the accountability report will outline achievements and shortcomings registered since the current administration took office. He noted that members will be given a detailed breakdown of what has been done over the last four years.
Kasingye also encouraged fully registered members with leadership ambitions to actively take part in the process by picking nomination forms during the AGM, stressing that the meeting marks the official start of the election roadmap.
Attention is also likely to turn to the highly anticipated presidential contest, with incumbent president Omar Ahmed Mandela who returned to the role in November 2021 after stepping aside in 2004 expected to face a challenge from Farouk Meywa.
Another major talking point will be the Shs3.2 billion ($889,201) compensation paid by the Uganda National Roads Authority for the former Villa Park grounds.
Earlier this year, trustees’ chairperson Gerald Ssendaula disclosed that the funds, placed in a fixed deposit, had appreciated to Shs4.5 billion ($1,250,439), with plans underway to acquire land, potentially along Entebbe Road, after elections scheduled within the next two weeks.
Beyond administration matters, the AGM will also review the club’s on-field journey over the same period, highlighting both successes and challenges encountered during the four-year tenure.
In a nod to its rich heritage, the club has also rolled out its first-ever souvenir magazine, chronicling 50 years of SC Villa’s existence.
Earlier today, the Executive Committee officially launched the SC Villa Magazine, a special publication commemorating the club’s remarkable journey and achievements over the past 50 years.
