Uganda Cranes and SC Villa midfielder Ronald Ssekiganda has finalised a move to Rwanda Premier League champions APR FC.

The former Catda FC player joins APR on a two-year contract as a free agent, ending his five-year stay with SC Villa. His departure marks a third successive year that the Jogoos have lost their club captain—following Gift Fred’s exit in 2023 and Kenneth Semakula’s move to Club Africain in Tunisia in 2024.

Ssekiganda wore the armband during the recently concluded 2024/25 season after taking over leadership duties from Semakula. He played a pivotal role in SC Villa’s run to the Uganda Premier League title—their first league triumph in two decades.

Ssekiganda originally signed for the record Ugandan champions in 2019 from Kampala Regional League outfit CATDA. That same year, he starred for Bulemeezi in the Masaza Cup, guiding them to victory and earning the tournament’s Most Valuable Player accolade.

At APR FC, Ssekiganda reunites with his former SC Villa teammate Hakim Kiwanuka and joins fellow Ugandan international Denis Omedi. The Rwandan military side, which also featured experienced midfielder Taddeo Lwanga last season clinched the 2024/25 league crown with 67 points from 30 matches.

His move represents another step in the growing trend of Ugandan talent making a mark in the Rwandan league.
