Patrick Jonah Kakande has attributed his rise to stardom to the influential guidance of former SC Villa head coach Dusan Stojanovic, whom he describes as a transformative figure in his football career.
Kakande’s performance in the previous Uganda Premier League season was nothing short of exceptional. He was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) after playing a key role in guiding SC Villa to their record-extending 17th league title. His efforts also earned him the Players’ Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season accolades, alongside a spot in the Team of the Season Best XI.
Reflecting on what shaped his remarkable season, Kakande credited Stojanovic for unlocking his full potential. “Dusan was a special coach,” he told Pitchside in an interview. “He taught me what to do before the game, during the game, and after the game. I knew some of my abilities, but he helped me understand what I needed to do to improve and be more useful to the team.”
One of the key elements of their relationship was the faith and motivation Dusan constantly instilled in him. Kakande fondly recalled the coach’s words before every game: “I know you are capable, so show me what you can do.” This consistent encouragement, he said, inspired him to deliver for both the coach and the team.
Known for his agility, sharp decision-making, and an eye for goal, Kakande believes that the solid foundation he established at SC Villa will fuel his ambitions of becoming a top-level professional.
Now a league champion, Kakande enters the next chapter of his career with renewed confidence and purpose, determined to build on the momentum sparked under Stojanovic’s mentorship.
